Humility Part 2: Jesus and Humility |
As we look to Jesus to learn how to live a Christian lifestyle, it is important that we don't overlook any quality. This week, we'll be examining how Jesus demonstrated humility in all aspects and in every situation of his life. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. ~ Matthew 11:29

Jesus: Embodiment of Humility
Born a Humble Birth |
While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a Son. She wrapped Him in cloths and placed Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. ~ Luke 2:6-7

Lived a Humble Life |
By dining with social outcasts: While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew's house, many tax collectors and "sinners" came and ate with Him and His disciples. ~ Matthew 9:10 By washing the feet of His disciples: After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash His disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around Him. ~ John 13:5
By facing the cross with obedience: Then Jesus went with His disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and He said to them, "Sit here while I go over there and pray." He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with Him, and He began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then He said to them, "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me." Going a little farther, He fell with His face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will." Then He returned to His disciples and found them sleeping. "Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?" He asked Peter. "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." He went away a second time and prayed, "My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done." When He came back, He again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. So He left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing. Then He returned to the disciples and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us go! Here comes My betrayer!" ~ Matthew 26:36-46 By serving others:

Died a Humble Death |
We are all at least somewhat familiar with the premesis of the death of Jesus Christ, but I encourage you to read the account as found in each of the Gospels: Matthew 26:1-27:54 Mark 14:1-15:39 Luke 22:1-23:46 John 18:1-19:37
